The temporary "scientist" and " artistic
and cultural prefession" residence permits

Temporary " scientist " residence permit can be given to a foreigner with a university PhD and coming to France to do research or to teach, paid or not, for the benefit of an approved reception organisation (educational establishment, research laboratory…), which delivers and signs a protocol of reception. The scientist benefits then from simplified procedures to make his spouse and his children come to France.

In a similar way, a foreigner can ask for a temporary " artistic and cultural profession " residence permit if he presents either a employment contract of more than three months agreed by the local Direction of employment, or a contract with a company with cultural object, agreed by the regional Direction of the cultural affairs.
