where and when should you ask for it ?
The steps must be made at the latest within two months after the
entrance in France. In most cases, it's better to see to them quickly.
Indeed, the residence permit is sometimes required in certain educational
establishments for the definitive registration. It is also necessary
for a certain number of formalities (home help, working license,
the opening of a bank account…).
To ask for your residence permit, you must apply to the prefecture
or the sub-prefecture of your place of residence in France, which
will indicate you the relevant service for the processing of your
file. Ask for information as soon as possible. Certain prefectures
make late appointments to deposit the file, especially in rush time
(from September till December).
The grant-holder students under the supervision of Cnous or EGIDE
have their procedure carried out by their administrative organization.
In Paris, the steps are usually made with the prefecture of Police
(Reception centre of the foreign students : 13, rue Miollis, 75015
Paris). In Paris, certain educational establishments have signed
an agreement with the prefecture of Police which allows them to
gather the files and to transmit them to the treatment center. Before
launching the procedure ask for information to the registrar's office
of your educational establishment. Maybe you are one of the fortunate
students who do not have to queue up in the prefecture and who can
deposit) their file in their school. In that case, you just have
to move only to withdraw your residence permit on summons of the
prefecture. Let us wish that this type of service, greatly appreciated
by the students who benefit from it, is developed in more establishments
and in the other French regions !
For the renewal, you can apply to the relevant service between the
3rd and the 2nd month preceding the expiration of the permit. It
is advised not to wait more than a month after the expiration permit
to ask for the renewal.
