Bye-bye the franc, hello euro

Since January 1st, 1999, the fifteen member countries of the European Union have adopted the principle of the single currency: the Euro _ (rate of conversion in France : 1 € = 6, 55957 francs). Eleven countries of the " euro zone " will introduce it officially : Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands and Portugal.

The official setting up of coins and notes will take place on January 1st, 2002. After February 15, all the payments will necessarily be made in Euro and payments in francs will not be authorized any more. It will always be possible to exchange free of charge coins and notes in francs until June 30, 2002 with its bank or with the Post office.
