Downtown or suburbs, Paris or the provinces
The question can seem pointless but experience shows that it turns
out crucial for
your blooming, even for the success of your studies : indeed to
choose the space to love guarantees a successful stay. The city
shines, the suburb is grey. It is not always the case. To settle
down outside university towns can offer severe advantages, such
as lower rents, cooler life, environment adapted to the family.
You should also know that more and more universities settle in the
suburbs and that they are generally well served by the public transports.
On the contrary, if you need an intense cultural life, to get out
late in the evening, to multiply the meetings for your balance,
prefer big cities and forget the suburbs which would be for you
a synonym for isolation, for solitude.
One must admit that the foreign students prefer Paris and its suburbs
to the detriment of the provinces. Indeed, 43 % of them settle in
Paris region. You should know nevertheless that you would find a
lot of advantages outside the Ile-de-France. Flats are less expensive,
there is less stress and if you come with your family, the quality
of life is really better. You can also choose a region which corresponds
to your personality, where the climate gets closer to that of your
country. For example, if you come from a warm country, your adaptation
will be faster in a city of the South of France where the sun dominates
and where people are more exuberant than somewhere else. However,
do not forget that you should choose your place of residence according
to the chosen discipline. Check that, in such or such city, there
are courses for your speciality.
