Students who do not pay any social security contribution

You will be considered as " social non-insurant " considering the French Social Security, if you belong to one of the following categories :
foreign student, whatever your age, registered in an educational establishment giving no right to the student Social Security ;
foreign students over 28 on October 1st of the academic year.

If you are a part of one of these categories, it means that you have no access to the student regime. Three possibilities are so offered to you:

Personal insurance
: You can sign a personal assurance of the Social Security with the social security office of your place of residence. This membership is very expensive if you are over 28. Furthermore, the signer can " go out " of the personal assurance only if he benefits from a compulsory regime (general regime of the employees or legal successor of an insurant, for example).

Voluntary personal insurance : They are private insurances the various contracts of which we advise you to read attentively before choosing. Please, keep this simple principle : generally speaking the less a brochure is complete or detailed, the worse the surprises. On the other hand, we disadvise you the social coverages of less than 150 euros : even if they are recognized by prefectures for the request of residence permit, their services are limited notably in case of serious problems requiring surgery or hospitalization.

Universal Medical Coverage (CMU) : Since January 1st , 2000, the CMU can permit certain students with very low income to benefit, under certain conditions, from the French Social Security for their health expenditure (basic CMU or additional CMU). It is necessary to inquire at the CPAM (Local center or Social Security) of one's place of residence. Most CPAMs demand for first application that the student is already has a residence permit.
